Claudia Jung's Real Name: Ute Singer (née Krummenast)

Quick answer: Claudia Jung's birth name is Ute Krummenast. After marrying Hans Singer she became Ute Singer in private life. Claudia Jung is her long-time stage name. She was born on April 12, 1964, in Ratingen, Germany (Augsburger Allgemeine; Merkur; Landtag reporting).

Why she dropped "Ute Krummenast"

Jung has said she disliked both "Ute" (childhood teasing) and the surname Krummenast for a singing career — joking she was not starting a punk band. She chose the stage name Claudia Jung when she began recording in the mid-1980s. In interviews she notes that family and, when annoyed, her husband still call her Ute (Merkur).

Schlager career

Producer Adam Schairer helped launch her. After several albums she broke through more widely in the 1990s; a high-profile collaboration with pianist Richard Clayderman, "Je t'aime mon amour," reached the German Top Ten. She has sold over a million recordings, earning gold and platinum certifications plus Echo awards and Golden Tuning Fork prizes common to the German Schlager industry (RP Online Landtag profile).

Politics

Living in Gerolsbach, Bavaria, she entered local politics with the Freie Wähler. Because Bavarian ballot rules limit stage names, ballots listed her as Ute Singer, genannt Claudia Jung. She served in the Pfaffenhofen county council and, from 2008 to 2013, in the Bavarian Landtag (Augsburger Allgemeine). She continues to record Schlager and appear on German music television.

Acting and continuing releases

Besides music and politics, Jung has taken German TV and film roles that trade on her public familiarity. She remains based in Bavaria and continues to issue Schlager singles and albums aimed at the Austrian and German charts, where the format still supports long careers. Interviews in the 2020s still return to the Ute-versus-Claudia name story because it is the clearest example of a German popular singer separating private legal identity from a constructed stage brand.
