Stage name vs birth name

Francesco Di Gesù performs as Frankie Hi-NRG MC—a stage name, not his legal surname change in ordinary billing. Italian press (La Stampa) and music profiles identify him as Francesco Di Gesù, born in Turin on 18 July 1969, of Sicilian descent and raised between Caserta and Città di Castello (La Stampa; CinemaItaliano).

Career: Fight da faida to Sanremo

Active from the early 1990s Italian hip-hop wave, he released the anti-Mafia single "Fight da faida" (1992) and the debut album Verba Manent (1993), often cited among the first major Italian-language rap albums on a major label. The 1997 hit "Quelli che benpensano" (from La morte dei miracoli) widened his audience. Later albums include Ero un autarchico and DePrimoMaggio. He competed at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2008 ("Rivoluzione") and 2014 ("Pedala" / "Un uomo è vivo") (La Stampa).

His lyrics frequently address politics, corruption, and social issues. He has collaborated with artists including Giorgia, Simone Cristicchi, and others on Italian pop/rap projects.

Why the "real name" question matters

Search interest in a celebrity's "real name" usually means a shortened everyday form, a middle name used as a handle, or a true stage/legal change. This page states which case applies and cites sources rather than gossip.
