Who was Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras?

Filgueiras grew up in Palm Beach County and attended West Boca Raton High School. Her mother told The New York Post she would have turned 21 in January. Her father, Allan Filgueiras, told the Associated Press he was not ready to speak about the crash.

Speaking about her daughter's love of flying, Corteleti told the New York Times: "She loved the freedom. It was completely different seeing the world from the top."

A pilot before she could drive

Filgueiras first made local headlines in 2023, when CBS12 (WPEC) reported she had earned her private pilot license at 17, before getting her driver's license. She trained through the School District of Palm Beach County's Aviation Academy and told the station she began ground school in 2020. She also learned about aviation from her father, who started flying recreationally in 2018. She had logged 88 flight hours when she earned that first license.

"Some people think it's weird because I can fly planes, but I can't drive a car," she joked to CBS12 at the time.

Her commercial flying career

According to the Miami Herald, Filgueiras earned her commercial pilot license in March 2026. Her mother said she had worked as a commercial pilot for about nine months, for a private charter company based in Fort Lauderdale, and had logged more than 1,300 flight hours. The AP reported that her license showed she was rated to fly that Learjet model as a second pilot, but not to be in command of the flight.

The Nov. 1 flight

The jet was flying from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. It went down around 12:50 p.m. on South Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North in Greenacres, about 7 miles southwest of West Palm Beach. All nine people on board died. As of Nov. 2, the other pilot and the remaining victims had not been publicly identified.

The NTSB is investigating, and no official cause has been announced. For full coverage of the crash, read our article: Learjet crash near Palm Beach and Mar-a-Lago.
