Quick answer: After the Golden State Valkyries beat Angel Reese's Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 of the 2026 WNBA Finals, the Nightcap crew said Reese played well, "but she's going to have to cut down on the turnovers." They saved most of their praise for Finals MVP Gabby Williams, and asked how Chicago ever let both Williams and Reese go.

The game

The Valkyries won the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history on Oct. 31, 2026, in San Francisco, taking the series 4-3 in just their second season. Gabby Williams scored 30 points, 28 of them in the second half, the most in a single half in WNBA playoff history, and was named Finals MVP. She scored her team's last 11 points of the third quarter and hit a clutch 3-pointer after Rhyne Howard tied the game at 57 late.

For Atlanta, Jordin Canada scored 18, Allisha Gray 16, and Reese had 8 points and 12 rebounds.

"If they could have got her under control"

The crew agreed that Williams decided it. "If they could have got her under control, they could have won this game," one of them said. When she hit "that bomb three," that was it.

On the Dream's side, they said Atlanta needed more from Howard, the kind of game she gave them in Game 6. Then came the line about Reese: "Angel played well, but... she's going to have to cut down on the turnovers." It was criticism, but mild, and it came wrapped in praise.

"How you get rid of Angel and Gabby?"

The bigger debate was about Chicago. Both Finals stars started with the Sky. Chicago drafted Williams fourth overall in 2018, and she later played in Seattle before joining Golden State this season. The Sky drafted Reese seventh overall in 2024 and traded her to Atlanta in April 2026 for two first-round picks.

"I don't know what Chicago was thinking," one host said. "You got two top 10 players in WNBA, and you gave them both up." That ranking is their opinion, but the point landed. Another host guessed something outside of basketball must have been involved, while saying he wasn't pinpointing anything. From a basketball standpoint, he asked, "How you get rid of Angel and Gabby?"

They also explained why stars like these leave rebuilding teams. "Those women are competitive," they said. "They ain't finna sit around and let you rebuild."
