Biography
Hubertus Cornelis Marinus Baarsgarst boxed under more than one recorded form of his name. Olympedia lists Huub Baarsgarst as his used Olympic name and Huub Huizenaar as another name.
Born in Rotterdam on January 12, 1909, he represented the Netherlands in lightweight boxing at the 1924 Paris Olympics. Olympedia records his death in Eindhoven on October 25, 1985.
A 1932 Polygoon catalog identifies Huib Huizenaar as one of the Dutch participants at an international boxing event on the Rotterdam cycling track. His listed opponent is the French boxer Eduard Tenet, more commonly cataloged in French as Edouard Tenet. Bep van Klaveren and Victor Deckmijn appear in a different matchup in the same reel.
The difference between Baarsgarst and Huizenaar is relevant to real-name searches. The records connect those names, but the consulted sources do not explain why he adopted Huizenaar. A name change should not be assigned an invented family story.
