Real name and stage name

Seulgi is a mononym drawn from her own given name. Her full name is Kang Seul-gi (강슬기), and she simply leaves off her family name on stage.

She was born on February 10, 1994. Seulgi is a member of the SM Entertainment girl group Red Velvet, which debuted in 2014. Within the group she is known as a main dancer and a strong vocalist, and she is often named by Korean media as one of the most skilled all-round performers of her generation.

She is also a member of two other SM projects. Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi is a sub-unit she formed with leader Irene. Got the Beat is a supergroup that brings together female singers from across SM, including Taeyeon, Wendy, Karina and Winter.

Seulgi made her solo debut in 2022 with the EP 28 Reasons. The release leaned into a darker, more mature concept than much of Red Velvet's catalogue and gave her a separate identity as a soloist. Korea JoongAng Daily and other outlets have covered her career since her trainee days at SM.

Red Velvet's members include Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy and Yeri, and Seulgi's dance training made her a central figure in the group's performances.

For people searching for her real name, the answer is Kang Seul-gi. Seulgi is her real first name.
