The Truth: The Truth (GTA Character Bio)

Fictional character. The Truth is a fictional character from Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto series. They're not a real person.

Bio

The Truth is an aging hippie and conspiracy theorist in San Andreas who lives on a farm in the countryside near Angel Pine. He's voiced by Peter Fonda, the star and co-writer of Easy Rider. The casting is a nod to Fonda's counterculture image. Fonda died in 2019.

The game never gives him a real name. He goes only by "The Truth," which suits a man who believes almost every government cover-up theory and says so at length. He talks about secret agencies, aliens, mind control and the military-industrial complex, often in the middle of a mission.

The Truth first comes in through Tenpenny, who sends CJ to work with him in the countryside. Their early missions include destroying a cannabis grow for the police, which The Truth is not happy about. He also has a van, the Mothership, that matters to the story. He helps CJ connect with Cesar, Kendl and the people setting up a garage in San Fierro.

Later, in the desert, he helps CJ and the crew with some of the strangest plans in San Andreas. Through those missions, the game toys with his conspiracies while still leaving room for doubt.

Spoiler note: The Truth's ending is played for laughs. He stays an eccentric outsider, and the finale leaves open whether any of his theories were true.

The Truth is one of the most beloved side characters in the game, and he's a big part of why the countryside and desert chapters feel distinct from Los Santos.

The Truth is fictional. Peter Fonda's voice credit is documented in the San Andreas credits and on Behind The Voice Actors.
