Fictional character. Catalina is a fictional character from Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto series. They're not a real person.

Quick answer

Catalina is a fictional GTA character voiced by Cynthia Farrell. She's Claude's treacherous ex-partner in GTA III and CJ's chaotic girlfriend in San Andreas.

Bio

Catalina is one of the most memorable villains in Grand Theft Auto and one of the few characters with major roles in two different games. Both times, she's voiced by Cynthia Farrell.

In San Andreas, which is set earlier in the timeline (1992), Catalina is Cesar Vialpando's cousin. She lives in the countryside of Red County, and Carl "CJ" Johnson meets her when Cesar introduces them. She's volatile, aggressive and very funny, and she drags CJ into a string of small-town robberies of a betting shop, a gas station, a bank and a liquor store. Their relationship is chaotic, and it ends when Catalina leaves CJ for another man. That man is Claude, the future protagonist of GTA III, and they head off to Liberty City together.

In GTA III, set in 2001, that relationship has turned deadly. During a bank robbery, Catalina shoots Claude and leaves him for dead, then runs off with her new partner, Miguel. By then she's a leader in the Colombian Cartel, which is flooding Liberty City with the drug SPANK. Most of Claude's story is about getting revenge on her, and the game ends with their final confrontation.

Catalina shows how GTA reuses characters across eras. Her role in San Andreas makes the GTA III betrayal look like part of a pattern: she's always restless, always looking for the next score and the next partner. Fans still quote her lines from both games.

Catalina is fictional, but Cynthia Farrell's voice credit is listed in the official credits for both GTA III and San Andreas.
