Bio

Franklin Clinton is one of the three protagonists of Grand Theft Auto V. He's played by Shawn Fonteno, who's also credited as one of the voices of the Grove Street Families in San Andreas.

Franklin is a young man from South Los Santos who wants more from life than the gang world he grew up in. When the game begins, he works as a repo man for a crooked Armenian car dealer named Simeon Yetarian. His best friend Lamar Davis keeps pulling him into small-time schemes, and his aunt Denise keeps telling him to make something of himself.

Franklin's life changes when he meets Michael De Santa. Simeon sends Franklin to repossess a car belonging to Michael's son, Jimmy, and Michael catches him in the act. Instead of punishing Franklin, Michael sees potential in him, and the two become partners. Michael becomes something like a father figure, and Franklin starts doing bigger and more dangerous jobs.

Through Michael, Franklin meets Lester Crest and Trevor Philips, and he becomes part of a heist crew. He's calmer and more thoughtful than Michael or Trevor, and he often ends up as the one keeping the peace between them. GTA V's ending lets the player choose Franklin's path, which decides the fate of the other two protagonists.

Franklin returned in GTA Online's "The Contract" update (December 2021), running a "celebrity solutions" agency whose first big client is Dr. Dre, whose phone of unreleased music has gone missing. He's fictional, but Shawn Fonteno's credit is listed in the official GTA V credits.
