Bio

Lamar Davis is Franklin Clinton's best friend in GTA V and a fan favorite. He's voiced by Gerald "Slink" Johnson.

Lamar grew up with Franklin in South Los Santos. Both of them came up around the Families gang. While Franklin wants to escape gang life, Lamar is happy to stay in it, and he keeps coming up with new money-making schemes that usually go wrong.

Lamar is loud, funny and confident, and he loves to talk. He insults Franklin constantly, and the two trade jokes and arguments throughout the game. A cutscene in which Lamar mocks Franklin's "yee-yee ass haircut," known as "Lamar Roasts Franklin," became a viral remix meme in late 2020, years after the game came out.

Despite his jokes, Lamar is loyal to Franklin. When he gets into trouble during the story, Franklin and his new partners come to his rescue. Lamar also returns alongside Franklin in GTA Online's The Contract update.

Lamar is a good example of GTA's comic side characters: someone who brings humor to a dark story and reminds the lead character of where he came from. He's fictional, but Gerald Johnson's credit is listed in the official GTA V credits.
