Quick answer

Ryder's real name is Lance Wilson. He's a fictional Grove Street traitor in GTA: San Andreas, voiced by rapper MC Eiht.

Bio

Lance "Ryder" Wilson is a Grove Street Families member in San Andreas. He's voiced by MC Eiht, a West Coast rapper known for the group Compton's Most Wanted.

Ryder is short-tempered, paranoid and never without his cap and sunglasses. He's one of the friends CJ reunites with when he comes back to Los Santos, and he takes part in several early missions. The best known is the robbery of a National Guard depot and the break-in at the home of a veteran to steal guns, which became one of the best-loved jokes in the game.

Spoiler warning: like Big Smoke, Ryder is secretly working against Grove Street. He's dealing with the Ballas and the corrupt C.R.A.S.H. officers behind the crack trade, and he helps set up the ambush that hurts Sweet and sends CJ out of the city. Ryder later turns up in San Fierro working with the Loco Syndicate drug ring, and he and CJ clash there.

Ryder's betrayal is less dramatic than Big Smoke's, but it hits CJ hard because Ryder was one of his oldest friends. Fans remember him for his attitude, his lines and for how quickly he turned on the gang.

Ryder is fictional, but MC Eiht's credit is listed in the official game credits. The role is one of the best examples of San Andreas casting real West Coast rap artists.
